Advice On Using Traditional Treatments Such As Olive Oil For Vaginal Thrush

Vaginal thrush is an extremely common yeast infection caused by the overgrowth of a yeast type of fungus that can be found naturally in the vagina. It can cause a range of symptoms including a white discharge, itching and irritation and swelling of the immediate area. Whilst over the counter treatments are available these are sometimes expensive and can sometimes cause side effects. Many people find that home remedies such as using olive oil for vaginal thrush can be an extremely effective and quick way of clearing and treating this infection.

Most infections are due to an increase in the growth of a type of fungus called Candida Albicans. It is believed that around half of women naturally have Candida around the vagina without it leading to irritation. It is advised that women should visit a doctor when suffering from their first yeast infection. This will allow an accurate diagnosis to be made.

Yeast infections are thought to be caused by a change in the natural conditions of the vagina. This altering of conditions can lead to an explosion in the growth of Candida that causes the symptoms of this condition. Reasons for the change could be chemical related, taking antibiotics sometimes affects conditions. Alternatively it might be caused by hormonal changes in the body, perhaps as a result of pregnancy or the menopause.

Olive oils have acids with anti fungal elements that can help to stop the supply of oxygen to the yeast. Women often decide to combine them with tea tree oil for its antibacterial and anti fungal properties.

Mixing these two natural ingredients together helps to water down the tea tree which can be quite strong. Women often apply olive oil around the vulva area as a way of calming and reliving irritation caused by this type of infection. Tampons can be immersed in this oil before adding a small amount of tea tree and putting into the vagina. The two ingredients can also be mixed together and applied to the area two times a day.

Another home treatment is inserting a clove of garlic into the vagina and leaving it in for a few hours. Garlic has a long history of being used to treat yeast infections. It can be dipped into extra virgin oils before being inserted as garlic is quite a concentrated ingredient.

There a many simple treatments that women can use to successfully clear the infection. These are naturally ingredients and unlikely to give side effects. The items used in these home treatments, such as olive oil for vaginal thrush are easily available thus avoiding an expensive trip to the pharmacist for an over the counter treatment.
