The Main Benefits Colon Cleanse Offers

By Donald Cox

As part of total body detoxification, there is a need to regularly cleanse your colon. There are two main methods that are used in this process; one in which cleansing products are used and the other in which irrigation is used. The products are either taken orally or inserted through the rectal route. In general these products include enemas, laxatives, herbal teas, enzymes and magnesium. In this article we review some of the benefits colon cleanse can achieve.

Irrigation yields the best results. It is usually done by colon hygienists (also known as hydro-therapists). In the process, several gallons of water under low pressure (or gravitational force) are emptied into the gut and then removed by abdominal massage. This is repeated several times so as to empty the large gut. The entire process typically lasts for about one hour. It should not be used in persons with rectal tumors, diverticulitis, severe hemorrhoids or inflammatory bowel disease.

Constipation is the commonest cause of indigestion. As the process of indigestion is hampered further, more constipation occurs leading to a vicious cycle. Infective organisms also colonize the gut as they feed on the waste products. Regular cleansing of the gut ensures that the gut remains regular and enhances digestion. Energy levels are increased and the immune system enhanced as a result.

Some of the foods that we consume contain harmful toxins that have potentially harmful effects on the body. Fortunately, most of them are removed from the body by the liver and the colon. In case of constipation and indigestion, however, there is increased absorption of these toxins (due to increased transit time) and a higher chance of developing cancerous and precancerous conditions. Some of them include polyps, cysts and colon cancers.

Studies show that regular cleansing is an important step in weight loss. Constant constipation is related to poor dietary choices that have a low fiber content. These foods tend to accumulate within the gut for a long period of time since they are, in most, cases difficult to expel from the system. In addition, they do not register satiety readily hence one is likely to overeat. Removing them through cleansing and increasing fiber content in food greatly helps in weight loss.

When the health of your gut is compromised, there is a high probability that your mental health will be affected as well. The main reason for this is that the vital vitamins that are required for your staying alert may not be adequately absorbed. When you engage in regular detoxification, toxins and any mucous that may be hampering the process are removed.

The process helps in the maintenance of an optimal blood pH. The pH is a product of different ions. Many of these ions are absorbed in the large gut. When the process of digestion is impaired, the acidity of the blood is increased. The functioning of many body systems is affected and one tends to have general body malaise. The entry of bacterial and fungal organisms through an inflamed gut (during constipation) compounds this problem.

There are a number of risks that are associated with the process. These include, among others, mineral imbalance, dizziness (due to dehydration), cramps, nausea, depletion of normal flora in the gut and in rare cases, bowel perforation. The risk of these complications increases with increasing frequency of the procedure. In the hands of a well trained professional, these complications are very rare.
